Operating Instructions for D20, D21 and D25

  • It is always advisable to have older teasmades checked and passed for use by a qualified person. Check the rating plate on the back of the teasmade and make sure that it is suitable for your electricity supply. Your supply should be an alternating current and not subject to interruption. Check the plug – your teasmade must be earthed.
  • Always operate the teasmade on a level surface.
  • The clock should start immediately when you plug the teasmade in. If it does not start there is a fault.
  • Adjust the clock to the correct time.
  • These teasmades have a 12 hour clock. Teasmades with 12 hour clocks cannot be set more than 11 hours in advance of the time required for tea making.
  • Flick both switches up – this is the OFF position – and set the alarm.
  • Put the required amount of tea (loose tea or tea bags are both acceptable) in the teapot and place it in position with the handle away from the clock and kettle. If the teapot is not placed correctly the buzzer will sound immediately the switch on the left is flicked down.
  • Check the kettle for damage or excessive limescale. Do not operate if there is evidence of either.
  • If the kettle is sound, fill it taking care not to fill it higher than one inch from the top the kettle. If the kettle is overfilled boiling water may spurt from the vent hole in the lid. Fit the lid securely.
  • Place the kettle on its platform and plug it in using the kettle connector (never plug teasmade kettles directly into the mains). Ensure that the platform has freedom of movement. Position the feeder tube over the teapot. If the kettle is not filled the buzzer will sound immediately the switch on the left is flicked down.
  • Turn the teasmade on by flicking both switches down.
  • Go to sleep.
  • You will be wakened by an enthusiastic gurgling sound, and finally by the buzzing of the alarm. The lights will be switched on automatically.
  • Flick the switch on the left up to silence the buzzer. When the lights are no longer required flick the switch on the right up to switch them off.
  • This teasmade can be used as an alarm clock without using the tea making facility. Remove the kettle completely, but keep the teapot in position. Flick both switches down as usual.
  • This teasmade can be used as a bedside light at any time by operating the switch on the right.
  • If you set the Teasmade up but forget to switch it on when you go to bed (everybody does this occasionally!) you may wish to switch it on manually in the morning. However, the only time this can be done is within the short period while the alarm contacts are closed, from about 12 minutes before the alarm should have gone off to about 40 minutes after. During this period flicking both switches down will switch on the lights and activate the kettle circuit immediately. When the tea is made flicking the switches back up. If you attempt to switch on the Teasmade in this way at any other time it will only cause the lights to come on and the kettle will not be activated.
  • To replace the light bulbs disconnect the teasmade from the mains. These teasmades use two 15 watt pygmy bulbs. Do not use any other light bulbs. Remove the hand set knob by turning it clockwise. Remove the screws and clock case back plate. Fit the new lamp and replace the back plate before use.
