Goblin Companion Tea Set Royal Albert Silver Maple 890

This Companion Tea Set, model 890, was available as an optional extra. The set was from Royal Albert's Silver Maple range, and comprised two cups and saucers, a jug, a sugar bowl and two teaspoons. It had its own advertising leaflet which was probably distributed with all teasmades sold in the mid 1970s.

This set was advertised in a brochure distributed in 1973, featuring Teasmade models 835, 815, 843 and 854. The brochure was headed ‘Goblin’s gift to the nation… twenty minutes in bed every morning!’ (Sorry no picture). The text reads:

If a thing’s worth doing, do it properly. You’re not going to wake up to sip your Teasmade tea out of thick mugs, are you? Get a companion set instead. It’s a mini tea set in bone china: two cups, two saucers, a sugar bowl and a milk jug. The delicate pattern is easy on the eye first thing in the morning – and we even include two stainless steel teaspoons. Go on, get one. Enjoy that twenty-minute lie-in even more every morning.

Similar text was used in a brochure published in about 1975, advertising the Goblin 852, 853, 854 and 855 (pictured below).

Tea always seems to taste better from a delicate bone china cup. That's why this elegant mini teaset from the famous Royal Albert range is such a neat idea. There's two cups and saucers, sugar bowl and milk jug, covered with a pretty pattern called Silver Maple. All this and two stainless steel teaspoons are packed in a special box called the Teasmade Companion Set. The perfect match for any Teasmade.

Below are some smaller images of the 890 companion set. (Sorry they are rather poor quality - they come from a very early iteration of this website). You can see the tea set in its shipping box, the tea set featured on a Goblin 835c box, the tea set featured on a Goblin 852 box, and the tea set featured on a Goblin 854 box, an example of the Goblin 855 set out with its tea service, the tea set featured on a Goblin 855b box, and finally the tea set featured on a Goblin 855w box.
