Hawkins Silver Lining Magazines

I have a growing collection of Silver Lining magazines. They were produced quarterly between 1949 and 1955 to advertise Hawkins’ range of products, in particular their pressure cookers. They are all between 20 and 24 pages, and feature lots of recipes, tips, letters, and articles for the home. I have a few spare copies, so if you have one that I’m missing, and I have one that you don’t have, let’s swap!

Better Meals by the Minute

This undated recipe book was published by L G Hawkins between 1949 and 1953, just after they applied for a patent on their ‘Electric Hostess’ trolley. It features an advertisement for the 1949 Hawkins Tecal. It invites the purchaser of the Hawkins Universal Quicker Pressure Cooker to join the ‘Pressure Cooker Users’ Club’ in order to be kept up to date with information concerning the pressure cooker, ‘and possibly many interesting new recipes’. This suggests that the Silver Lining series was still being planned.
