I have a growing collection of Silver Lining magazines, produced between 1949 and 1955 to advertise Hawkins’ range of products.

1935 Absolom Patent Number GB440941
Patent number GB440941 was applied for on August 21st 1935. George reached an agreement with L.G. Hawkins to manufacture these tea makers for them. The unit, branded as the Tecal, was manufactured by George Absolom from 1936 until the beginning of World War 2 in 1939. The patent reads:

The Hawkins Tecal (pronounced tea-call) was designed by George Absolom and manufactured by him until World War Two in 1939. The Tecal featured a chrome kettle, but no teapot. An advert for this model appeared in the Army and Navy catalogue for 1939-1940. The entry described the Tecal

1953 Hawkins Tecal LGH 2000
The new streamlined, coronation model, the LGH 2000, was launched in September 1953, at £9/15/-. At the time of its launch Hawkins was still selling the LGH 1200c and the Tiffee. I believe this was the first model based on Registered Design number 858238, which was registered in 1950.

1954 Hawkins Tecal LGH 3000
This new 1950’s version of the Tecal, based on Hawkins patent no 661601, was introduced in 1954. Its appearance was much the same as the later 4000. I believe this was the second model based on Registered Design number 858238, which was registered in 1950. The patent number was

1960 Hawkins Tecal LGH 4000
Exact date unknown but must fall between 1954 and 1967. I believe this was the third model based on Registered Design number 858238, which was registered in 1950. The patent number was 661601 published on 21st November 1951. There were 4000 and 4000CH models.

1963 Hawkins Classic LGH 5000
The chrome plated deco styled Hawkins Classic LGH 5000 was made by L G Hawkins of Drury Lane, Hastings. It is known to have been available from 1963 to 1966 and was probably produced into the 1970’s. This teasmade was advertised as a “Luxurious Tea and Coffee Maker” in

1966 Hawkins Tiffee LGH 1700
The Hawkins Tiffee 1700 was available in 1966. An advert for this later model of the Tiffee in ivory with polished boiler appears in the Gardiner of Bristol catalogue, 1966, priced at £5.17.11.
